I can give you a quick  taste of a simple plan that you might put in effect.  This plan is going to focus on the internet marketing of affiliate programs. OK, here is a simple little plan but at least it’s a plan.

The first thing you to look at is what products and or services will you be promoting.  There is a ton of different affiliate products and services available.  Finding the right one that pays is the most important part.  When considering products to promote you need to look at a few different areas.

 

1.  What is your cut, what do you make from a sale

 

2.  Does it convert sales easily

 

3.  Does the sales page use cookies

 

4.  Do they have a minimum payout, how often will they pay

 

5.  How old is the  Company, are they well known

 

6.  Do they have good customer service

These are things that I look at when considering a product to promote.  Always research a product before you recommend it.  Just as if you are going to open a family restaraunt your reputation is very important.

WEB SITES AND HOSTING

Next you need to consider a web site and hosting account,afterall, you need to show case your products and services.  Think of your website like  a house you want to sell, you want it in a good location and looking good for all to see.  There are a lot of hosting companies, some even free, but you get what you pay for.  Here are a few things to look at when choosing a hosting company: 

 

1.  How much bandwidth do they offer

 

2.  How much disk space do they offer

 

3.  How many mysql databases do they offer

 

4.  Can I host multiple web sites from one account

 

As you learn to run and care for your website you will find some of your own things to look for, both in products to promote and webhosting.

The type of web site you build is also important, that it looks well put together. This can be a difficult task, but there are a lot of “what you see, is what you get editors out there. They will do ok for many things you will need to do. Go with simple direct response marketing, most affiliate programs give you all the sales materials you will need. Remember keep it simple stupid, use a simple page to get a direct response(preferably a name and e-mail address).

 

A direct response web site is just that, it’s simple and has only one goal, to get a response from someone. These sites are usually geared to build lists or customer bases. List building however is a complete article by itself, maybe that will be my next article.

      When your doing any kind of marketing, enlightenment comes through information.  The more information  you gather and learn,  the more traffic you can get through various means.  The best means of getting traffic are the free ones,  at least free is best for me.  Some of the best free traffic comes from good seo(search engine optimization) habits or tactics.  Good seo habits take time to learn and achieve, nothing worth having is easy.  But it’s needed to grow and continue to grow your profits from home, unless you happen to be filthy rich already, which I am not. 

     There are many places you can advertise for free, they come in many variations.  Surf for credit sites, free ad boards, link trading sites, article submission sites(if your a better writer than I), and many more.  I personally use a few of these, the best advice anyone can give is to do a search and try them.  Just because one works for me, it might not work for you. Lets explore the possibilities, as I grow my online business. E-commerce is a rapidly expanding field, with many faces and names. Not everyone makes it in Internet marketing,in fact most fail. I believe those that fail,fail because they give up. After all we are talking about a real,you have to work hard and long to get it business. If you are interested in any business, make a plan and stick to it. Always remember before you dig out your wallet, if it sounds to good to be true,it is. Take some time, look around, read all the free info you can get. Don’t be pulled in by high pressure sales tactics, check them out before you buy. Go to some forums, ask other people’s opinions. Not all webmasters and business people are ethical and honest. I personally have made some bad decisions, just remember, it’s only really a bad decision if you fail to be better for having made it. I know I will not make that decision or any other without properly doing my homework.

I have found that what my depends on, is the relationships that I build. Every person involved in e-commerce at any level needs to realize that before they get involved. What many seem to forget is that their relationships with other webmasters is as important as customer relationships. I find the being yourself, and following the old saying “Treat me as you wish to be treated” are the best way to build solid relationships with customers and other business people as well. You never know when that merchant may end up being a customer and vice verse, anything can happen. It takes a lot of relationships to build a business, and each one is precious, even those that seem to be bad in the heat of a moment.

Remember it won’t be quick and easy, always see the glass as half full. Do your homework, it’s the gathering and assimilating of information before you make decisions. It’s the building of relationships and maintaining the relationships you have built. The definition of your homework will grow with you, it’s a learning process and I am better off for every minute of it, you will be too.
